SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to meet perennial title contender Lawrence County in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Thursday, March 17.
Both Magoffin County and Lawrence County feature several experienced players, many of whom were key contributors during the 2021 high school baseball season.
The Hornets opened the 2022 high school baseball season 0-1 after dropping an opener to Floyd Central at the start of the week. Floyd Central shut out Magoffin County 2-0 in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Monday, March 14.
Following a loss to familiar foe Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Baseball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2021 season 16-12.

The Bulldogs are 1-0 after blanking Johnson Central. Lawrence County, which is the reigning 58th District champion, shut out Johnson Central 6-0 in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Tuesday, March 15.
Following a loss to Johnson Central in the 15th Region Baseball Tournament title game, Lawrence County exited the 2021 season 29-7.

Magoffin County was visiting 16th Region member Elliott County on Wednesday, March 16. Results from the Magoffin County-Elliott County baseball game were unavailable at press time.
