SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to meet reigning 14th Region champion Perry County Central in the DJ Begley Classic at Hazard High School on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Heading into the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season, Magoffin County is ranked fourth in the 15th Region.
Defending champion Perry County Central is ranked second in the 14th Region.
The Hornets and Commodores did not meet during the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season.
Following an appearance in Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament, Perry County Central ended the 2021-22 season 29-5.
After falling to Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2021-22 season 12-16.
Magoffin County’s 2022-23 schedule includes games versus Perry County Central, Martin County, Morgan County, Pike County Central, Floyd Central, Paintsville, Avon (Ind.), South Gibson (Tenn.), Huntington (W.Va.), Wolfe County, Belfry, West Carter, Johnson Central, Letcher County Central, East Ridge and Shelby Valley.
Under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County is scheduled to compete in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic in Gatlinburg, Tenn., Dec. 20-22.
