Hornets to tip off season versus Wolves

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will tip off the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season at Wolfe County on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The Hornets and Wolves, who compete in bordering regions, met once during the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.

Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Wolfe County 65-46 on Jan. 3, winning its first game in the 2023 portion of the previous prep hoops campaign.

After falling to Paintsville in overtime during the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County finished 16-11 in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.

Under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County showed improvement in the 2022-23 prep hoops campaign. Magoffin County is ranked fifth in the Preseason 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Top 10 Poll.

Wolfe County finished as the 55th District runner-up and made an appearance in the 14th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament during the 2022-23 season. The Wolves, under the direction of Coach Robert Creech, concluded their 2022-23 season 15-17. Wolfe County is ranked eighth in the Preseason 14th Region Boys’ Basketball Top 10 Poll.

Magoffin County and Wolfe County each opened preseason practice in mid-October.

Tip-off for the upcoming Magoffin County-Wolfe County boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
