Hornets to visit Betsy Layne

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Betsy Layne for its next game in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season on Thursday, Jan. 25.

The Hornets and Bobcats are slated to meet for the first time in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season. Magoffin County and Betsy Layne will battle in a non-district game. The Hornets and Bobcats hail from bordering districts.

Fresh off a win over Floyd Central, Magoffin County will carry momentum into the matchup versus Betsy Layne.

The Hornets are 9-8. Magoffin County has won two of its last three games. Under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County is a title contender.

Betsy Layne will enter the game one week after falling to Martin County in the 15th Region All “A” Classic.

The Bobcats are 8-7. Under the guidance of first-year head coach Mike Howard, Betsy Layne has won three of its last five games.

Both Magoffin County and Betsy Layne are competing in the second half of the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season. The Hornets and Bobcats are longtime 15th Region foes.

Magoffin County, which has won four of its last six games, features one of the most experienced lineups in the 15th Region.

Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Betsy Layne game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Junior Newsome Arena.
