Hornets win opener in Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Magoffin County won its opener in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, defeating Wren (South Carolina) 58-51 on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Continuing to show improvement, Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, recorded its second straight win.

The win over the opponent from South Carolina allowed Magoffin County to even its record to 2-2.

Individual statistics from the Magoffin County-Wren boys’ basketball game were unavailable at press time. More coverage on the Magoffin County boys’ basketball team’s early-season games will appear in future editions.

Teams from multiple states are in the field for the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, which is scheduled to be played through Thursday, Dec. 22.

Magoffin County is competing in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic Boys’ Red Division. The Boys’ Red Division includes Magoffin County, Wren, James River (Virginia), Kentucky Country Day, Danville, Livingston Academy (Tenn.), Floyd Central and Chapman (South Carolina).

Magoffin County was scheduled to be back on the court for its second game in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic at press time on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
