Lady Hornets defeat Breathitt County, 52-47

JACKSON — Winning on the road, Magoffin County defeated Breathitt County 52-47 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Magoffin County shot 35.7 percent (15-of-42) from the field in the win over Breathitt County. The Lady Hornets made five of 10 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Magoffin County shot 68 percent (17-of-25) from the free throw line.

Karah Lafferty scored a game-high 16 points to lead Magoffin County to the win. Lafferty led a trio of Magoffin County scorers in double figures.

Recording a double-double for Magoffin County, Angel Mullis scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Delivering another double-double for Magoffin County, Abby Barnett added 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Magoffin County’s offensive attack in the non-district game included additional scorers Kennedy Williams (six points), Emily Sluss (four points) and Macy Williams (two points).

Breathitt County shot 25 percent (15-of-60) from the field. The Lady Cats made only six of 33 three-point field goal attempts.

Breathitt County shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the free throw line in its short effort.

Riley Bush scored 15 points to pace Breathitt County in the girls’ high school basketball matchup.

Joining Bush in double figures for Breathitt County, Emily Neace and Brenley Gross netted 11 points apiece.

Former 55th District frontrunner Breathitt County, which suffered its eighth loss in nine games, received additional scoring from Maddie Haddix (four points), Kaylea Ritchie (four points) and Alexia Combs (two points).

Magoffin County bounced back to win after dropping a 57th District game to Martin County one day earlier.
