Lady Hornets defeat Martin County for district win

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat visiting Martin County 16-6 in six innings in a 57th District softball game on Wednesday, April 20.

The win allowed Magoffin County to halt a three-game losing skid.

Jaden Williams earned the win for the Lady Hornets. Williams pitched allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks while recording five strikeouts over six innings.

Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Williams finished 2-for-3. Williams homered and collected five RBIs.

Scarlett McCarty and Rylie Castle each went 4-for-5 at the plate for the Lady Hornets.

Jaylynn Lafferty contributed three hits for Magoffin County while Katie Howard and Kayleigh Lemaster added two hits apiece.

Chipping in offensively for the Lady Hornets, Ashlyn Patrick tallied one hit.

McCarty, Lemaster and Patrick each collected two RBIs while Castle drove in one run.

Kayleigh Osendott started in the circle for Martin County and absorbed the loss.

Osendott pitched five innings, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts.

Zoie Hinkle, who pitched in relief, paced Martin County at the plate. Hinkle went 3-for-4 for the Lady Cardinals.

Following Hinkle, Addison Duncan and Bailey Dials added two hits apiece for Martin County.

Aiding the Lady Cardinals at the plate, Brittany Thompson tallied three RBIs.

Both Magoffin County and Martin County are scheduled to compete in the 57th District Softball Tournament in May.
