Lady Hornets knock off Morgan County in opener

WEST LIBERTY — Magoffin County won its opener in the 2022 high school softball season, knocking off rival Morgan County 13-3 on Tuesday, March 15.

Sophomore pitcher Jaden Williams earned the win in the circle for the Lady Hornets. Williams is among the top high school softball pitchers in the 15th Region.

Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Williams belted a grand slam and drilled two doubles. Williams drove in four runs for visiting Magoffin County.

In addition to Williams producing at the plate, Rylie Castle, Katie Howard, Scarlett McCarty, Ashlyn Patrick, Jaylynn Lafferty, Makenna Jordan and Kaitlyn Roberts contributed offensively for Magoffin County in the convincing victory.

Under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, Magoffin County is slated to host Morgan County on Monday, April 4.
Magoffin County’s 2022 schedule includes games versus Morgan County, East Ridge, Shelby Valley, Lawrence County, Prestonsburg, Elliott County, Floyd Central, Betsy Layne, Robertson County, Breathitt County, Pike County Central, Johnson Central, Martin County, Rowan County, Belfry, Menifee County and Paintsville.

Magoffin County was visiting East Ridge on Wednesday, March 16. Results from the Magoffin County-East Ridge softball game were unavailable at press time.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley for a home opener on Monday, March 21.
