Lady Hornets outlast Jenkins, 43-40

JENKINS — Continuing to win on the road, Magoffin County outlasted Jenkins 43-40 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Magoffin County shot 33.3 percent (17-of-51) from the field in its winning effort. The Lady Hornets made three of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County held on to win despite making only six of 20 free throw attempts.

Angel Mullis led Magoffin County to the win. Nearly recording a double-double, Mullis scored 16 points and collected nine rebounds.

In addition to Mullis reaching double figures for Magoffin County, Karah Lafferty netted 14 points.

Aiding Magoffin County in the win, Kennedy Williams contributed seven points while Abby Barnett and Jaylee Reed added three points apiece.

Magoffin County 43, East Ridge 33: Magoffin County turned back East Ridge, winning 43-33 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Feb. 10.

Strong inside, Magoffin County outrebounded East Ridge 44-26.

Magoffin County made 11 of 23 free throw attempts in its winning effort.

Angel Mullis led Magoffin County with a game-high double-double, delivering 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Nearly recording a double-double, Abby Barnett scored nine points and pulled down 11 rebounds for 57th District member Magoffin County.

Aiding Magoffin County in the win, Karah Lafferty added seven points while Kennedy Williams and Emily Sluss contributed five points apiece.

Magoffin County 36, Cordia 27: Magoffin County upended Cordia 36-27 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Kennedy Williams scored 12 points to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Along with Williams reaching double figures for Magoffin County, Angel Mullis netted 10 points.

Magoffin County received scoring from six different players. The other scorers for Magoffin County were Abby Barnett (five points), Jaylee Reed (four points), Emily Sluss (three points) and Karah Lafferty (two points), who pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
