Lady Hornets outlast Wolfe County in double overtime, 50-48

SALYERSVILLE — Halting a 13-game losing skid, Magoffin County outlasted visiting Wolfe County 50-48 in double overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 17,

Magoffin County used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win in the girls’ high school basketball game. Four scorers, each of whom reached double figures, made up Magoffin County’s offensive attack.

Angel Mullis scored 15 points to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Finishing directly behind Mullis in scoring for Magoffin County, Karah Lafferty netted 14 points.

Abby Barnett followed, adding 11 points for the Lady Hornets.

Rounding out Magoffin County’s individual scoring, Kennedy Williams contributed 10 points.

Magoffin County shot 28.3 percent (15-of-53) from the field. The Lady Hornets shot 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the free throw line.

Wolfe County shot 42.1 percent (16-of-38) from the field in the high school hoops matchup. The Lady Wolves shot 47.4 percent (nine-of-19) from three-point range.

Wolfe County shot 70 percent (seven-of-10) from the free throw line.

Hannah Kidd scored 15 points to lead Wolfe County in the girls’ high school basketball game.

Finishing directly behind Kidd in scoring for Wolfe County, Kenzie Miller netted 14 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Wolfe County, Bailee Wright added nine points.

Aiding Wolfe County offensively, Sarah Smith (seven points), Jasmine Banks (two points) and Naoma Noble (one point) each made an impact.

Noble paced Wolfe County inside, grabbing nine rebounds.
