Lady Hornets shut out Morgan County, 12-0

WEST LIBERTY — Winning on the road, Magoffin County shut out rival Morgan County 12-0 in five innings on Thursday, March 16.

Familiar foes, Magoffin County and Morgan County met for the first time in the 2023 high school softball season.

Following the win, Magoffin County improved to 2-1.

Jaden Williams pitched a one-hit shutout for the Lady Hornets.

Claiming the pitching win with a strong performance in the circle, Williams recorded eight strikeouts.

Morgan County pitcher Alyssa Smith took the pitching loss. Smith allowed 12 runs on 13 hits while posting two strikeouts over four innings.

Magoffin County scored 12 runs on 15 hits. Williams (two hits), Abby Barnett (four hits, two RBIs), Katie Howard (three hits, two RBIs), Katie Carty (two hits, three RBIs), Kayleigh Lemaster (two hits, four RBIs), Kiley Lemaster (one hit) and Makenna Jordan (one hit) each made an impact offensively for Magoffin County in the shutout win.

Jenna Hampton collected Morgan County’s lone hit in the high school softball game.

Magoffin County bounced back to win after dropping a game to 15th Region counterpart Lawrence County one day earlier.

Under the direction of Coach Tony Skaggs, Magoffin County is scheduled to host Morgan County for a game on Friday, April 14.
