Magoffin County competes in Raceland holiday event

RACELAND — Magoffin County competed in the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic at Raceland High School Thursday, Dec. 28-Saturday, Dec. 30.

The Lady Hornets dropped games to Nicholas County, host Raceland and East Carter during the Raceland-hosted holiday event.

Nicholas County 52, Magoffin County 24: Nicholas County defeated Magoffin County 52-24 in the opening round of the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic at Raceland High School on Thursday, Dec. 28.

Maggie Simons, a freshman guard who is among the top girls’ high school basketball players in the 10th Region, scored 20 points to lead Nicholas County to the win.

Along with Simons, Nicholas County received scoring from Caroline Banks (eight points), Mady Adams (eight points), Tessa Humphries (eight points), Nevaeh Davis (four points), Sydney Carpenter (two points) and Katie Switzer (two points).

Humphries paced Nicholas County inside, pulling down nine rebounds.

Jaylee Reed scored 10 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Reed was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures.

Abigail Bradley (seven points), Macy Williams (three points), Abby Barnett (two points) and Maddie Salyer (two points) followed Reed in Magoffin County’s scoring column.

Raceland 65, Magoffin County 51: Host Raceland topped Magoffin County 65-51 in the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic on Friday, Dec. 29.

Carley Boyd scored 16 points to lead Raceland to the win.

Delivering a double-double for Raceland, Kennedy Taylor netted 15 points and claimed 10 rebounds.

Accompanying Boyd and Taylor in double figures for the Lady Rams, Mia Adkins netted 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Raceland. Mikenna Lacks netted nine points.

Raceland’s offensive effort featured eight different scorers, including Naomi Maynard (six points), Brookelynn Campbell (four points), Alexis Boggs (three points) and Sophia Maynard (two points).

Macy Williams scored 11 points to lead former 15th Region champion Magoffin County.

Joining Williams in double figures for Magoffin County, Jaylee Reed netted 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for visiting Magoffin County, Abby Barnett scored nine points while Bella Trusty netted eight points.

Contributing offensively, Abigail Bradley (six points), Maddie Salyer (five points) and Emily Sluss (two points) provided Magoffin County’s additional scoring.

Pacing Magoffin County inside, Barnett cleared out eight rebounds.

Magoffin County made 18 of 24 free throw attempts in the loss.

East Carter 48, Magoffin County 34: Magoffin County couldn’t return to the win column as East Carter prevailed 48-34 in the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic at Raceland High School on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Narrowly missing double figures, Emily Sluss netted nine points to pace Magoffin County.

In addition to Sluss, Magoffin County received scoring from Bella Trusty (seven points), Jaylee Reed (seven points), Maddie Salyer (four points), Abby Barnett (three points), Macy Williams (two points) and Abigail Bradley (two points).

Magoffin County managed to make eight of 10 free throws in the loss to East Carter.
