COMBS BRANCH – A Salyersville woman was arrested on an attempted murder charge over the weekend after an alleged dispute about someone else taking a small child to breakfast.
According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police Post 9 was dispatched to an assault complaint on July 5 at roughly 10 a.m. on Combs Branch St., located three miles east of Salyersville. When police arrived, Macey Jo May, 25, of Salyersville was detained and placed in one of the cruisers.
Per the initial investigation, police determined that May allegedly had become verbally upset with a person for taking a small child to McDonald’s for breakfast.
May reportedly began yelling and hitting the person on the side of the head. Another person came out of the house and attempted to separate the two, but May reportedly also began hitting her, as well.
At this point, two neighbors who witnessed the event came over to help stop the fighting, but when they gave May verbal commands to stop, she allegedly threated them, saying she would “eat them one-by-one,” according to the arrest citation.
May allegedly reached into her purse, pulled out a handgun and fired two shots, one of which almost hit one of the people involved. After the second shot, the gun jammed and another person was able to get May to lay down the gun. Then KSP arrived and took May into custody.
KSP recovered the firearm and one shell casing, as well as took photos of the individuals who were reportedly assaulted.
May was transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, at which point she told police she did not remember anything that happened that morning.
At press time, May is still being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
After the arrest, KSP also opened a case for wanton endangerment, which is still under investigation.
May is currently facing the following charges: fourth-degree assault (minor injury); five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment; third-degree terroristic threatening; and attempted murder.
