Magoffin County defeats Floyd Central in six innings, 13-3

SALYERSVILLE — Prevailing at home, Magoffin County pulled away to defeat 15th Region rival Floyd Central 13-3 in six innings in a high school softball game on Wednesday, March 30.

Two teams that hail from bordering districts, Magoffin County and Floyd Central met for the first time in the 2022 high school softball season.

Magoffin County returned to the win column following a one-run loss to Elliott County five days earlier.

Jaden Williams limited opposing batters and earned the win in the circle for Lady Hornets. Williams allowed three runs on two hits and three walks while recording five strikeouts.

Floyd Central pitcher Cadyn Roberson suffered the loss in the circle. Roberson allowed 13 runs in five and two-thirds innings.

Magoffin County plated 13 runs on 14 hits.

Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Williams finished 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.

Jaylynn Lafferty, Katie Howard, Scarlett McCarty, Makenna Jordan and Katie Carty provided two hits apiece for Magoffin County in the win. Lafferty, McCarty and Carty delivered two RBIs apiece while Howard drove in one run.

Contributing to Magoffin County’s offensive effort, Rylie Castle added one hit.

Grace Martin and Hannah Lewis collected one hit apiece for Floyd Central in the non-district matchup.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Floyd Central for another game on Thursday, May 5.
