Magoffin County finishes season near .500

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County exited the 2022 high school softball season one game below .500.

The Lady Hornets compiled a 10-11 record in the 2022 high school softball season.

Paintsville dealt Magoffin County a season-ending loss in the semifinals of the 57th District Softball Tournament, defeating the Lady Hornets 8-5 at Johnson Central High School on Tuesday, May 24.

Magoffin County notched wins over Morgan County, Prestonsburg, Floyd Central, Robertson County, Martin County, Paintsville, Elliott County and East Ridge during the 2022 high school softball season.

The Lady Hornets, under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, showed improvement on the diamond. Magoffin County won four of its last five regular season games, carrying a three-game winning streak into the postseason.

The Lady Hornets managed to outscore opponents 153-105 during the 2022 high school softball season.

Scarlett McCarty (So.), Jaylynn Lafferty (Jr.), Katie Howard (Jr.), Jaden Williams (So.) and Rylie Castle (Jr.) ranked as Magoffin County’s top five hitters in the latest high school softball campaign.

Williams paced Magoffin County in the circle, ranking as the Lady Hornets’ top pitcher.

Despite falling in the semifinals of the 57th District Softball Tournament, Magoffin County carried momentum over into the offseason. Set to return its entire lineup, former 15th Region champion Magoffin County is expected to reload for the 2023 high school softball season.

Magoffin County will finalize and release its schedule for the 2023 high school softball season at a later date.
