Magoffin County suffers district loss to Johnson Central

PAINTSVILLE – Visiting Magoffin County fell behind early and was limited offensively throughout the matchup as Johnson Central pulled away to win 66-22 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 15.

PAINTSVILLE – Visiting Magoffin County fell behind early and was limited offensively throughout the matchup as Johnson Central pulled away to win 66-22 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 15.

Johnson Central shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field in the district game. The Lady Eagles were 9-of-25 (36 percent) from 3-point range.

Johnson Central shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line.
Controlling the backboards, Johnson Central outrebounded Magoffin County 33-17.

Clara Blair drained seven three-pointers on her way to scoring a game-high 21 points for host Johnson Central, which featured three scorers in double figures.

Kelci Blair added 16 points for the Lady Eagles.

Following Kelci Blair in scoring for Johnson Central, Sammi Sites netted 10 points.

The other scorers for Johnson Central in the district win were Sophie Younce (seven points), KK Vannoy (four points), Abby Stambaugh (three points), McKinley Cantrell (three points) and Haylee Marsillett (two points).

Magoffin County shot 31.2 percent (5-of-16) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 1-of-3 from 3-point range.

Magoffin County shot 55 percent (11-of-20) the free throw line.

Angel Mullis (seven points, eight rebounds), Kara Risner (five points), Karah Lafferty (three points), Stephanie Helton (three points), Haley Barnett (two points), Abby Barnett (one point), Kennedy Williams (one point) and Jaylen McCarty (four rebounds) contributed for the Lady Hornets.
