Magoffin County sweeps region archery titles

ASHLAND — Magoffin County swept the 2023 KHSAA Region 11 boys’ and girls’ archery titles at Rose Hill Christian School on Saturday, March 25.

Among the top high school archery programs in the state, Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Johnnie King, excelled throughout each region tournament.
The Hornets shot 96 10s and recorded a score of 1,958 to finish first in the KHSAA Region 11 Boys’ Archery Tournament, which included nine teams.

Individually, Luke Montgomery (292) placed first to lead the Hornets.

Magoffin County shot 85 10s and recorded a score of 1,922 to place first in the KHSAA Region 11 Girls’ Archery Tournament, which included eight teams.

Abigail Skaggs (282) finished second individually to lead the Magoffin County girls’ team.

Middle School Boys: 5. Taylor Elkins, 275; 7. Brayden Lewis, 271; 14. Evan Reed, 253; 15. Aidan Carty, 252.
