Magoffin to meet Ashland in Class 3A State Playoffs

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is headed back to the KHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs.

The Hornets are scheduled to visit Ashland in the opening round of the Class 3A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 4.

The KHSAA has released the opening round pairings for each of its six classes. Magoffin County, Pike County Central, reigning state champion Belfry and current frontrunner Lawrence County will represent District 8 in the Class 3A State Playoffs.

In addition to the Magoffin County-Ashland matchup, first round games in the Class 3A State Playoffs will include Glasgow at Union County; Trigg County at Hart County; Webster County at Casey County; Taylor County at Paducah Tilghman; Western Hills at Bardstown; Nelson County at Henry County; LaRue County at Christian Academy-Louisville; Mercer County at Elizabethtown; Powell County at Bell County; Garrard County at Fleming County; Rockcastle County at Mason County; Lewis County at Estill County; Russell at Belfry; East Carter at Lawrence County and Pike County Central at Greenup County.

Prior to competing in the Class 3A State Playoffs, Magoffin County will visit rival Morgan County for a regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 28. The Hornets are 3-6 heading into the regular season finale.

Ashland has the week of Friday, Oct. 28 open. The Tomcats concluded the regular season 6-4. Currently, Ashland is on a four-game winning streak. Former state champion Ashland has won five of its last six games.

The kickoff time for the Magoffin County-Ashland game at historic Putnam Stadium will be announced at a later date.
