Man found in well after tragic accident

Gun Creek – The body of a Magoffin County man and active community member from the Royalton area was discovered in a well, along with his dog, after crews searched for him for hours when he didn’t return from hunting on Monday, October 31.

Deputy Coroner Brian Parker told Mortimer Media Group, “Magoffin County Rescue Squad was notified [Monday] at 16:55 of a male subject possibly lost in the woods in the Wolverine area, which is off Gun Creek. At 21:50, 911 contacted the coroner’s office about a body found in a suspected well. Upon arrival, the body was identified as Nelson Lovely, 75 of Gun Creek Rd., Salyersville, KY. The story as we currently know is Mr. Lovely left early that morning to run his dogs. He’s very familiar with the property – was born and raised over there. There was just a well, but how he got in there we really don’t know, yet, but he was taken to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, KY, for an autopsy. The water and the water temperature are definitely factors in Mr. Lovely’ s death at this time is what the preliminary is saying.”
