MCHS football program hosts youth camp

SALYERSVILLE — The Magoffin County High School football program hosted the Spring Skills and Drills Camp on Saturday, May 21.

“We had a solid turnout for our camp,” said Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett. “There were lots of talented players and a bunch of interested coaches and parents in attendance. Two hours flew by. I was pleased with our varsity players who came in and basically ran the camp. We will probably do another camp this summer and be more position specific. We just focused on the fundamentals of football — blocking, tackling, good feet and hands. The future looks good for Magoffin County Football.”

After being named the Hornets’ head coach in January, DeRossett is preparing to guide Magoffin County in the 2022 high school football season. The Hornets’ schedule for the upcoming campaign includes games versus Breathitt County, Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue, Lawrence County, Belfry, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County. Magoffin County is slated to kick off the 2022 high school football season at Breathitt County on Friday, Aug. 19.
