SALYERSVILLE — The Magoffin County girls’ basketball team held its first open gym session on Monday, June 1.
Another open gym session for the Lady Hornets is scheduled to be held from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5.
Additional open gym sessions will be announced.
Any girls entering grades 7-12 in the 2026-27 schoolyear are eligible to attend the open gym sessions.
Gerald Howard has been named the new head coach of the Magoffin County girls’ basketball program. Howard is one of the most experienced basketball coaches in the 15th Region. During his coaching career, Howard has been an assistant coach for both the Magoffin County girls’ and boys’ basketball programs, enjoying success in various roles. Howard has additional experience as a head coach for each of the Herald Whitaker Middle School basketball programs.
Sammi Sites was the interim head coach for Magoffin County late in the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season.
A team meeting for the Magoffin County girls’ basketball program was held on Wednesday, May 20.
The Lady Hornets will begin preseason practice in mid-October.
