About 200 people enjoyed the beautiful weather as they attended the Dawkins Line Rail Trail 10-Year Celebration.
Royalton Trail Town President Victoria Doucette released the following to the public regarding the event:
A thank you to the Kentucky State Department Parks for being part of the celebration with Royalton Trail Town Members and working to help prepare the beautiful Jane Beshear Trailhead for the event.
A thank you to the Salyersville I.G.A. for the delicious food that they prepared for the event. A special thank you to Fred Ledesma, manager of the I.G A.
Thank you to Oliver Rose’s Buddies Produce for all the beautiful flowers that truly enhanced the Jane Beshear Trailhead.
Thank you to Don Fields’ Pro Fitness for taking charge of the bike ride. A large number of cyclists road from Pro Fitness in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to the Jane Beshear Trailhead. They all ate, had photos taken with the Former First Lady Jane Beshear and enjoyed riding the Dawkins Line Rail Trail to Jenny’s Creek and back to Prestonsburg. Several cyclists came in and left the event on their own time. People as far away as the states of Maryland and Florida came to enjoy the festivities and made many positive comments that were greatly appreciated. When you ride or hike the Dawkins Line Rail Trail, you see individuals on the trail from many other states and as far away as Europe.
Thank you to Daniel Doucette and Steve Allison for taking the responsibility of the hike for the event.
Thank you to the Magoffin County Funeral Home for loaning two tents and setting them up for the event.
A special thank you to the Former First Lady and the Governor Andy Beshear’s mother, Jane Beshear, for attending and making everyone’s day talking about the Dawkins Line Rail Trail and participating in photos with everyone. She left the event very pleased and impressed with the large number of cyclists on the trail attending the event. Jane Beshear’s vision became a reality after well over 10 years of advocating for the Dawkins Line Rail Trail. She has been involved the past four years while her son, Governor Andy Beshear, has been in office, with Victoria Doucette President of Royalton Trail Town to update the Dawkins Line Rail Trail and will continue her work in tourism for the area of Eastern Kentucky.
A special thank you to Dinah and David Cordell, Brenda Russell, Dan Doucette, and Paul and Sue Bailey for working on Friday to prepare for the Saturday event.
Thank you to the Royalton Trail Town members David and Dinah Cordell, Brenda Stephens Russell, Daniel Doucette, Paul and Sue Bailey, Anna Risner, Shawna Sharp, Joyce Cantrell, and Zola Bailey for all their working at the event on Saturday to help make the event one to remember.
A very special thank you to John and Lenora Blackburn for presenting the Former First Lady and Governor Andy Beshear’s mother Jane Beshear with the beautiful wood hand-crafted folk art of a coal train on the Dawkins Line Rail Trail. John also wrote a beautiful poem in honor of the Beshear Family that was matted and framed by Daniel Doucette and presented to Former First Lady and Governor Andy Beshear’s mother Jane Beshear.
