BLOOMINGTON – Local police and fire officials are asking for information from the public regarding a stolen generator and battery charger that was taken from a local fire department.
Hunter Howard with the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department tells the SI that the items were taken from the fire department building between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, noting he was gone to church during that time, but the last time someone was there around 8 that morning everything had been fine.
“I came back from church in Morgan County and discovered it,” Howard said. “Door was wide open and a light on.”
Since there is a county-owned park nearby, Howard said they had the cameras checked from the Bloomington Park, but the only thing that could be seen in that time frame was a county pickup truck picking up recyclables. He said the cameras only showed one side of the building, however.
The battery charger and generator were bought for the fire department in recent years through a state-funded grant, leaving the volunteer-based service without some much-needed resources.
“The wildest part was how they managed to get in broad daylight like that,” Howard said.
The theft was reported to the Magoffin County Sheriff Department, which is still following leads on the incident. If anyone has any information regarding the stolen generator and battery charger, contact the Magoffin County Sheriff Department at 606-349-2914.
