Lady Hornets to host five straight home games

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to host five straight home games in the first three weeks of the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season.

The Lady Hornets were scheduled to visit Powell County for 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season opener on Monday, Dec. 1.

However, weather forced the Magoffin County-Powell County girls’ basketball game to be postponed.

Now, Magoffin County is scheduled to host longtime rival Morgan County for its 2025-26 season opener on Thursday, Dec. 4. The Magoffin County-Morgan County game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

In its second game at home in 24 hours, Magoffin County is scheduled to host Belfry on Friday, Dec. 5. The Magoffin County-Belfry game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Magoffin County is slated to host Johnson Central for a 57th District opener on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Magoffin County-Johnson Central game is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. Johnson Central is the defending champion in both the 57th District and the 15th Region.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Phelps on Friday, Dec. 12. The Magoffin County-Phelps game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Magoffin County is slated to host Prestonsburg for its fifth straight home game on Monday, Dec. 15. The Magoffin County-Prestonsburg game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.

Magoffin County opened preseason practice in mid-October. An experienced group of players has returned for the Lady Hornets.
