Hornets edge Jackson City, 2-1

PIKEVILLE – Determined Magoffin County edged Jackson City, an opponent from the nearby 14th Region, 2-1 in six innings in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament at Pikeville High School on Saturday, April 17.

Jade Williams pitched Magoffin County to the victory. Williams allowed eight hits and one run over six innings, striking out nine as she claimed the pitching win.

Riley Turner suffered the pitching loss for Jackson City. Turner pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out three.

Presley Smith led Magoffin County at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a double.

In addition to Smith’s leading offensive performance, Williams, Ashlyn Patrick, Emilee Bailey and Jaylynn Lafferty recorded one hit apiece for the Hornets.

Patrick and Scarlett McCarty each drove in one run for Magoffin County.

Defensively, Magoffin County committed one error.

Jackson City managed to outhit Magoffin County 8-7.

Keesha Mullins, Cristiana Turner and Riley Turner led Jackson City at the plate in the tournament game, providing two hits apiece.

Jackson City excelled defensively, finishing error-free in the field.
