SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County doubled up visiting Shelby Valley 10-5 in a high school baseball game on Monday, May 10.

The Hornets and Wildcats are non-district rivals.

Lucas Litteral started on the mound for the Hornets and earned the win. Litteral pitched five innings, allowing four runs on three hits while registering 11 strikeouts.

Trenton Coleman closed the game out on the mound for Magoffin County, allowing one run on three hits.

Literal, one of the top baseball players in the 15th Region, led Magoffin County offensively, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Both Litteral and Coleman exited the matchup batting .444. for much-improved Magoffin County.

In another strong offensive performance for the Hornets, Ethan Salyer finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Salyer delivered two triples in the Hornets’ win.

Contributing at the pate for Magoffin County in the victory, Coleman, Caleb Howard, Colin Litteral and Kaden Back added one hit apiece.

Familiar 15th Region rivals, Magoffin County and Shelby Valley battled each other for the first time in the 2021 high school baseball season. The Hornets and Wildcats met for the first of back-to-back games.
