Hornets open season 3-0

SALYERSVILLE – Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County is 3-0 in the first half of the 2021 high school football season after claiming back-to-back-to-back non-district wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central and Bellevue.

Magoffin County has shown improvement early in the 2021 high school football season.

Through its first three games, all of which have been played on the road, Magoffin County has outscored opponents 112-52.

Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Prestonsburg 34-6 in its season opener on Friday, Aug. 27.

Outlasting Knott County Central in its second game on Friday, Sept. 3, Magoffin County prevailed 38-32.

Winning convincingly in its latest outing in northern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 10, Magoffin County beat Bellevue 40-14.

A member of Class 3A, District 8, Magoffin County has equaled its win total from the shortened 2020 high school football season. The Hornets, following an appearance in the Class 3A Playoffs, concluded the 2020 high school football season 3-4.

Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Lawrence County, Belfry, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County.

The Hornets are scheduled to visit Lawrence County for a Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 17.
