SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to meet Letcher County Central in the 15th Region Preseason Challenge at Johnson Central on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Letcher County Central is a replacement team for the preseason high school basketball event.
Originally, Magoffin County was matched up against Fairview in the 15th Region Preseason Challenge.
However, Fairview dropped out of the event.
The Hornets and Cougars will meet in the first game of the 15th Region Preseason Challenge. The opening tip for the Magoffin County-Letcher County Central boys’ basketball scrimmage is slated for 10 a.m.
Magoffin County is the reigning 15th Region boys’ basketball champion. The Hornets, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, reached the second round of the 2023-24 KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament. Magoffin County compiled a 22-14 record in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.
Letcher County Central is a perennial contender for the 14th Region boys’ basketball title. After making an appearance in the 14th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Letcher County Central exited the 2023-24 prep hoops season 16-13.
Along with the scrimmage, Magoffin County and Letcher County Central are scheduled to meet in the DJ Begley Classic at Hazard on Friday, Dec. 6.
