Magoffin County fares well in season’s first meet

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County hosted its first meet of the 2025 high school track and field season on Thursday, March 27, facing visiting squads Floyd Central, Menifee County, Morgan County, Martin County, Wolfe County and Jackson City.

Host Magoffin County fared well in the meet.

A breakdown of Magoffin County’s top finishers from the meet follows.

Abigail Bradley finished first in both shot put (30-11) and discus throw (87-00).

Matthew Hall finished first in both the 1,600 meter run (5:26) and 3,200 meter run (12:18).

Sullivan Rice placed second in the 3,200 meter run (12:20) and third the 1,600 meter run (5:38).
Miley Back placed third in both the 100 meter (22:04) and 300 meter (1:07) hurdles.

Brooklyn Allen placed third in the high jump (3-8) and fourth in the triple jump (23-00).
Sheena Cole placed third in shot put (26-2) and fourth in discus throw (66-7).

The 4×800 relay team (10:57) consisting of Matthew Hall, Sullivan Rice, Colton Boyd and Jason Yates placed fourth.

The 4×100 relay team (1:05) consisting of Miley Back, Kadence Blanton, Brooklyn Ashley and Ashley Gayheart placed fourth.

The top finishers in the 100 meter were Aiden Collett (13.44), Jason Yates (15.31), Nicholas McKenzie (16.21), Jonathan James (22.94), Kadence Blanton (17.16) and Slone Hamilton (18.17).

Other finishers included Jason Yates, 1,600 (6:45); Colton Boyd, Nicholas McKenzie, JP Owens, Jason Yates, 4×100 (1:01); JP Owens, 200 meter (33.64) and Nicholas McKenzie, 200 meter (37.20); Brooklyn Allen, long jump (9-1.5); Aiden Collett, long jump (16-2); Colton Boyd. long jump (12-4) and triple jump (25-2.5); and JP Owens, long jump (11-7) and triple jump (23-00).
In discus throw were Ashley Gayheart (59-20), Chelsey Blanton (57-3), Brianna Conley (50-1), Emily McCarty (18-2), Trey Hines (85-2), Riley Arnett (81-09) and Aiden Collett (60-00).

In the shot put were Ashley Gayheart (19-11.5), Chelsey Blanton (16-10), Brianna Conley (14-7.25) and Riley Arnett (26-8.5).

The next meet for the Magoffin County track and field team is at Menifee County on Friday, April 4. Coaches Tonya Ward, Ron Thacker, Melissa Hines and Carlos Morgan are very proud of their team and look forward to a great season.
