EASTERN – Sophomore guard Aden Barnett scored a game-high 26 points to lead visiting Magoffin County over Floyd Central 69-48 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 26.
Barnett connected on 10 field goals in the Hornets’ convincing victory.
Magoffin County moved ahead early, outscoring Floyd Central 18-5 in the opening quarter.
The Hornets led 34-18 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.
Accompanying Barnett in double figures for the Hornets, Grant Whitaker scored 15 points and Ben Lafferty netted 11 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for Magoffin County, Ethan Prewitt scored eight points.
Contributing offensively, Kaden Bowling (three points), Isaiah Salyer (two points), Patrick Damron (two points) and Caleb Wilson (one point) accounted for the rest of the Hornets’ scoring.
Defensively, Magoffin County limited Floyd Central throughout the matchup. Former 58th District champion Floyd Central shot 36.2 percent (17-of-47) from the field.
Sophomore forward Ronnie Samons paced Floyd Central, scoring a team-high 17 points for the Jaguars.
Joining Samons in double figures for Floyd Central in the loss, Braden Moore netted 13 points.
Following Moore, Tanner Hall (six points), Brody Buck (six points), Skyler Hall (five points) and Joshua Martin (one point) chipped in offensively for the Jaguars.
Magoffin County defeated Floyd Central for the second time in the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.
