Grand jury releases indictments – One charged with attempted murder

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County grand jury released the following indictments on January 6, 2022:

Betty Mullins, 34, of Oak Valley Road, in Salyersville, is charged with one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (a Class D felony). According to the indictment, on or about July 28, 2021, Mullins allegedly possessed a quantity of methamphetamine.

Dudley Allen, 37, of Estia Fitzpatrick Drive, in Salyersville, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (Class D felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor). According to the indictment, on or about October 7, 2021, Allen allegedly possessed a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Tommy Stevens, 34, of S. Hale Road, in Salyersville, intimidating a participant in the legal process (Class D felony); first-degree criminal mischief (Class D felony); and second-degree persistent felony offender (penalty enhancement). According to the indictment, on or about November 21, 2021, Stevens allegedly intimidated another person by use of physical force and/or a threat directed to said person he believed to be a participant in the legal process. The indictment also alleges that he intentionally and wantonly defaced, destroyed or damaged property owned by another, causing pecuniary loss of $1,024.40.

Nathaniel Dean Slone, 35, of David, is charged with flagrant non-support (a Class D felony). According to the indictment, from about August 1, 2010, through November 30, 2021, Slone allegedly persistent failed to provide support to a minor child he knows he has a duty to provide in arrearage of $2,950.05.

Shawna Emmons, of Kimper, is charged with first-degree attempted murder (Class B felony), and two counts first-degree wanton endangerment. According to the indictment, on or about January 4, 2022, Emmons allegedly attempted to cause the death of another person and created a substantial danger or death or serious physical injury to two other people.

According to the original arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Jonathan Holbrook and Deputy Jordan Osborne were dispatched to a home on East Mountain Parkway on the morning of January 4 in reference to a stabbing. When they first arrived at the home, police made contact with the victim on his porch, and he was holding his neck and chest. He told the deputies that he had been stabbed three times by Emmons, who was sitting on his couch.

Police entered the home and made contact with Emmons, who would not speak to the deputies. Another person in the home told police she and the victim had been asleep when she heard him screaming for help and that he had been stabbed by Emmons. The witness said she saw Emmons standing over the victim with a knife and, at that time, he was able to kick her off him and she fell onto a baby bed. The victim reportedly tried to get the knife from her, but was stabbed in the shoulder, according to the citation.

Emmons left the room, threw the knife down in the living room floor and was sitting on the couch when the witness reportedly saw her go towards the knife, again. The witness told police she tackled Emmons, took the knife and laid it on the kitchen counter until police arrived.

Emmons was placed under arrest and transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where she remains at press time. Emmons is scheduled to be arraigned on January 20 in the case.
Warrants were issued for all defendants indicted last Thursday.
