From Big Sandy Area Development District
November is National Family Caregivers Month! Big Sandy Area Agency on Aging would like to take this time to recognize and honor family caregivers across our region and the country. It offers and opportunity to raise awareness of caregiving issues, educate communities, and increase support for caregivers.
This is celebrated every November nationally led by the Caregiver Action Network (CAN), a nonprofit that provides free education, peer support, and resources to family caregivers. CAN selected the 2024 theme, “I Care…,” to highlight the importance of self-recognition and self-identity – key factors in caregivers’ access to essential support.
Big Sandy Area on Agency has a program to help caregivers in our region. The National Family Caregiver Program has two components to help caregivers caring for an older adult and grandparents raising grandchildren. Caregiver provides services for someone who is caring for someone 60 and older. Grandparents program is for grandparents, 55 and older, who are raising their grandchildren. Some of the services for both programs include information, assistance, respite, supplemental services, and counseling/support groups/training. Big Sandy continues to have the KY Grandparents program for fiscal year 2025 to assist grandparents of any age raising grandchildren.
Please call Melissa King, ADRC at 606-886-2374 to be screened for eligibility and to make a referral to the program.
