SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Lawrence County for its Class 3A, District 8 opener.
Both Magoffin County and Lawrence County are undefeated.
Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County has excelled throughout the first half of the 2021 high school football season.
The Hornets are 3-0 after notching wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central and Bellevue.
Magoffin County beat Bellevue 40-14 on Friday, Sept. 10.
The Hornets’ offense has been balanced through the first three games in the 2021 high school football season. On the ground, Magoffin County has rushed 97 times for 549 yard and nine touchdowns. Through the air, Magoffin County has completed 23 of 45 passes for 522 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Bulldogs are 3-0 after defeating Harrison County, Greenup County and Russell.
Lawrence County beat visiting Russell 39-28 in the Septemberfest Bowl on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Thriving on the ground, Lawrence County has rushed 96 times for 823 yards and 14 touchdowns through its first three games.

Lawrence County shut Magoffin County 39-0 when the two teams met for a district game in Salyersville during the 2020 high school football season.
Magoffin County has additional regular season games remaining versus Belfry, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Lawrence County football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Louisa.
