MOREHEAD – Magoffin County was limited offensively as Rowan County prevailed 72-28 in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, Jan. 5.
Connecting on nearly half of its attempts, Rowan County shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field. The Vikings shot 52 percent (13-of-52) from three-point range.
Rowan County shot 58.3 percent (seven-of-12) from the free throw line.
Katie Chandler and Hailey Rose scored 18 points apiece to lead Rowan County to the win.
Accompanying Chandler and Rose in double figures for the Vikings, Haven Ford netted 13 points.
Rowan County featured eight different scorers, including Destiny Utterback (six points), Kandace Chandler (six points), Brynlee Walker (five points), Lauryn Eastham (three points) and Helaina Rogers (three points).
Ford and Rogers combined to pace Rowan County inside, pulling down nine rebounds and eight rebounds, respectively.
Magoffin County connected on nine of 42 field goal attempts. The Lady Hornets hit three of eight three-point field goal attempts, shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Magoffin County shot 58.3 percent (seven-of-12) from the free throw line.
Kara Risner paced Magoffin County, scoring a team-high 10 points. Risner was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures.
In addition to Risner, Magoffin County received scoring from Karah Lafferty (six points), Jaylee Reed (three points), Kennedy Williams (three points), Jaylen McCarty (two points), Angel Mullis (two points) and Charla Lykins (two points).
Lykins and McCarty paced Magoffin County inside, claiming seven rebounds and six rebounds, respectively.
