SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County senior quarterback Lucas Litteral is averaging 200 passing yards per game.
After thriving on the diamond during the 2021 high school baseball season earlier in the year, Litteral has carried momentum over into his final prep football campaign.
Litteral has played in three of Magoffin County’s four games thus far in the 2021 high school football season, completing 38 of 57 passes for 600 yards and eight touchdowns. Among the top high school quarterbacks in Eastern Kentucky, Litteral is helping to lead the Hornets.
Eight different Magoffin County receivers have reeled in one reception apiece. Aden Barnett, Grayson Whitaker and Brad Standifer have each hauled in eight receptions for the Hornets.
An experienced quarterback, Litteral completed 81 of 176 passes for 1,449 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2020. Litteral threw eight interceptions during the 2020 high school season, a campaign in which he was among the top quarterbacks in Class 3A. He has thrown two interceptions this season.
As a team, Magoffin County has completed 32 of 68 passes for 708 yards and nine touchdowns four games into the 2021 high school football season. Four teams have combined to pick off three of the Hornets’ passes.
Currently, Litteral ranks as Magoffin County’s second-leading rusher behind Barnett. Litteral has rushed 31 times for 199 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets.
With Litteral under center in the 2021 high school football season, much-improved Magoffin County is 3-1 overall and 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8.
Through four games, Chris Gamble-coached Magoffin County has outscored opponents 126-95.
The Hornets are preparing to visit Belfry for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 24.
