Magoffin County loses district series to Paintsville

SALYERSVILLE — Paintsville pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 59-24 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The win allowed Paintsville to sweep a 57th District series from Magoffin County.

Paintsville shot 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from the field. The Lady Tigers shot 35.3 percent (six-of-17) from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line and outrebounded Magoffin County 26-24.

Emilea Preece led Paintsville with a game-high double-double scoring 30 points and clearing out 16 rebounds.

Accompanying Preece in double figures for Paintsville, Kylie Kinner netted 16 points.

Following the two players in double digits, Karah Lafferty (four points), Kayllyn Vannoy (four points), Emma Keeton (three points) and Shay Music (two points) provided the rest of Paintsville’s scoring.

Jaylee Reed scored 12 points to pace Magoffin County in the 57th District girls’ basketball game. Reed made four of eight three-point field goal attempts and was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures.

Abby Barnett (five points), Bella Trusty (four points), Maddie Salyer (two points) and Abigail Bradley (one point) followed Reed in Magoffin County’s scoring column.

Paintsville 69, Magoffin County 34: Paintsville defeated visiting Magoffin County 69-34 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Feb. 9.

Paintsville shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the field. The Lady Tigers shot 44 percent (11-of-25) from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 61.5 percent (eight-of-15) from the free throw line.

Emilea Preece scored 21 points and claimed eight rebounds to lead Paintsville to the district win. Preece made seven of nine free throw attempts.

Joining Preece in double figures for Paintsville, Kylie Kinner scored 15 points, Karah Lafferty netted 12 points and Kayllyn Vannoy posted 10 points.

Rounding our Paintsville’s scoring, Brooklyn Skaggs added seven points and Shay Music contributed four points.

Magoffin County shot 30 percent (12-of-40) from the field. The Lady Hornets made two of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County connected on eight of 17 foul shots.

Abby Barnett scored 11 points and secured seven rebounds to lead Magoffin County in the 57th District game.

Narrowly missing double figures for Magoffin County, Macy Williams netted nine points.

Six players provided scoring for Magoffin County in the district matchup. Emily Sluss (six points), Abigail Bradley (four points), Maddie Salyer (two points) and Bella Trusty (two points) were Magoffin County’s additional scorers.
