Magoffin County matched up against number one seed Johnson Central

INEZ — Magoffin County is matched up against top seed Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 2024 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Longtime rivals Magoffin County and Johnson Central are set to meet at Martin County High School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26.

Excelling throughout the regular season, Johnson Central swept a pair of games from Magoffin County.

Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 62-15 in an early-season matchup in Salyersville on Friday, Dec. 15.

Finishing a sweep, Johnson Central defeated Magoffin County 65-18 in Paintsville on Monday, Jan. 8.

Johnson Central is the number one seed for the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Head coach Jim Hicks guides the Lady Eagles.

Magoffin County is the number four seed for the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Head coach Justin Williams guides the Lady Hornets.

Both Magoffin County and Johnson Central were eliminated in the semifinals of the 2023 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

The winner of the Magoffin County/Johnson Central matchup will advance to the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament title game on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
