SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Rescue Squad is gearing up for the 43rd Annual Media Auction, slated for May 5, 6 and 7.
This is the first auction in the squad’s history without late Captain Carter Conley, who passed away last year due to complications from COVID-19. Conley, who helped found the rescue squad, spearheaded the media auction each year, collecting donations from the community and working with local media outlets to publicize the auction items. In the wake of his death, Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Dewey Marshall told Mortimer Media Group he is hoping the community can come together to try to help fill Conley’s shoes and raise enough money to keep the squad operational another year.
For the 2020 year, they answered 307 rescue calls, providing 20,968 man hours – all volunteer – and logging 515 hours in training time.
The Magoffin County Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency aid and rescue to the people of Magoffin County.
The rescue squad auction is usually their largest fundraiser, with the funds used to pay for maintenance, insurance and supplies.
They also receive funds from Community Day, which has been limited to virtual donations over the last two years due to the pandemic, individual donations and the Magoffin County Fiscal Court.
May 5, 6 and 7, the Magoffin County Rescue Squad will be conducting the 42nd Media Auction, which will be covered by the WRLV radio station, 106.5 FM, Howard’s Cable Channel 15, and the local newspaper, the Salyersville Independent. On May 5 and 6, the auction will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on May 7 it will run from 2 to 7 p.m. The Rescue Squad is dependent upon the money raised during this radio, TV and newspaper auction.
All donations of items, money or services are tax deductible as approved by the Internal Revenue Service No. 51-0151531.
