Sarah Gardner Dunn

Sarah Gardner Dunn passed away late Saturday, December 2nd, 2023. Mrs. Dunn was born on November 22nd, 1941 on the Ivy Point Farm in Salyersville Ky, the fifth and final child of the late Julia May Gardner and Byron Richards Gardner. She attended Salyersville High School and Eastern Kentucky University. On October 19th, 1960 she married Luther Dean Dunn, with whom she had three daughters, Bridget Adams, Susan Begley, and Lisa Graham.
She served her community and Commonwealth as a social worker, acting as an advocate for those most in need of grace and understanding. Thereafter she dedicated her full time to a variety of hobbies, talents, and joys. Gardening, cooking, knitting, quilting, reading, and assuring that her home was a safe and welcome haven to those she loved. Those most fortunate to receive her full attention were the members of her large and ever-growing family of 21, particularly her eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. To them, she was the warmth of the home and center of their love, respect, and admiration. Her ability to keep a house that thrived on affection, joy, excitement, and fun is the reason Salyersville has always been the favorite family destination for vacations, weekends, and every holiday marked on the calendar. She was the wit of any conversation. The comfort in any crisis. She was a wife, a sibling, a mother, an aunt, and a grandmother. She remains a loved one of the countless people lucky enough to have benefitted from her hugs, her wisdom, or a wink from her calm, blue eyes.
A member of Burning Fork Community Church, she was a woman of faith and lived a life reflective of the key values of Christianity: kindness, forgiveness, and charity.
At the close of her eighty-two years of life, Mrs. Dunn leaves a legacy of love and admiration with her husband of sixty-three years, a brother, a litany of nieces and nephews, three daughters, three sons-in-law, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. They will remember her as, Suri, Sarah, Mom, and Mamaw, respectively. They all miss her more than words can describe.
A memorial in honor of Mrs. Dunn will be held at the Ivy Point Farm in the Spring. No better environment exists to celebrate her memory than one filled with playing children, blooming flowers, and The Lord’s promise of eternal life and renewal. Details will be announced at the appropriate time.

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a sign of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, deep contrition, and of unspeakable Love.”
– Washington Iriving

Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
