LEXINGTON — Junior thrower Trey Hines and senior hurdler Cheyenne Perkins combined to lead Magoffin County in the 2026 high school track and field postseason.
After excelling in the Class 2A, Region 7 Meet, both Hines and Perkins advanced to the state meet. Their performances in the region competition allowed them to advance to the state meet.
Hines and Perkins each competed for Magoffin County during the KHSAA Class 2A Track & Field State Championship presented by UK HealthCare on Friday, May 22.
Hines placed 20th in Boys’ Discus. His throw was 110 feet, 4 inches.
Perkins placed 22nd in the Girls’ 100 Meter Hurdles. Her time was 20.39 seconds.
Both Hines and Perkins excelled for Magoffin County throughout the 2026 high school track and field season, which opened in March.
The Class 2A State Championship was held at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex and featured numerous state title contenders.
Magoffin County coaches Tonya Ward, Ronald Thacker and Melissa Hines guided Hines and Perkins along with their teammates in the 2026 high school track and field season.
Perkins concluded an exception high school track & field career. However, Hines will be carrying momentum into his senior campaign.
The 2027 high school track & field season will begin in less than nine months.
