SALYERSVILLE — Jaden Williams pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Magoffin County over visiting Prestonsburg 11-0 in five innings on Thursday, March 24.
Longtime 15th Region rivals, Magoffin County and Prestonsburg met for a non-district matchup.
Turning in a solid performance, Magoffin County took control early and pulled away to win convincingly.
Williams limited Prestonsburg batters throughout the high school softball game, recording nine strikeouts while allowing one hit and three walks.
Prestonsburg pitcher Haleigh Jefferson suffered the loss in the circle. Jefferson allowed 11 runs on 12 hits and one walk while recording three strikeouts over four innings.
Magoffin County plated 11 runs on 13 hits. Leading Magoffin County at the plate, Jaylynn Lafferty finished 3-for-3.
Following Lafferty, Ashlyn Patrick and Scarlett McCarty added two hits apiece for the Lady Hornets. Both Lafferty and Patrick provided three RBIs.
Contributing offensively for Magoffin County in the victory, Williams, Rylie Castle, Makenna Jordan, Katie Carty, Katie Howard and Kaitlyn Roberts connected for one hit apiece. Howard homered for the Lady Hornets.
Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Jefferson connected for Prestonsburg’s lone hit.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg on Tuesday, May 10.
