Lady Hornets headed to JC for first district game

PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Johnson Central for its 57th District opener in the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season.

Magoffin County is 2-3. The Lady Hornets have dropped back-to-back games. Magoffin County has notched wins over Cordia and Breathitt County. The Lady Hornets have dropped two games to Prestonsburg while losing another matchup versus Belfry.

Much-improved Johnson Central is 5-1. The Lady Eagles have notched wins over Betsy Layne, Lawrence County, Belfry, Breathitt County and Prestonsburg. Johnson Central suffered a loss in overtime to Floyd Central earlier in the month.

Jim Hicks is in his first season as Johnson Central head coach.
Magoffin County is slated to compete in the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic at Raceland High School Dec. 28-30.

Both Magoffin County and Johnson Central will compete in the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament in February.

Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Johnson Central girls’ basketball game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
