SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is averaging over 340 yards and nearly 30 points per game in the 2022 high school football season.
A member of Class 3A, District 8, Magoffin County has scored 208 points in seven games. The Hornets have allowed 214 points.
Magoffin County has rushed 187 times for 1,641 yards and 20 touchdowns. Producing both on the ground and through the air, Magoffin County has completed 45 of 97 passes for 757 yards and nine touchdowns.
Junior athlete Aden Barnett leads the Hornets in both rushing and passing.
Barnett has rushed 83 times for 908 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Magoffin County junior has completed 44 of 95 passes for 747 yards and nine touchdowns.
Ben Lafferty ranks second in rushing for the Hornets. Laferty has rushed 60 times for 456 yards and six touchdowns.
Additional key rushers for Magoffin County include Ian McCarty, Russell Cruze and Grayson Whitaker, each of whom have rushed for one touchdown.
Brock Montgomery leads Magoffin County in receiving. Montgomery has hauled in 13 receptions for 283 yards and three touchdowns.
Ranking as the Hornets’ second-leading receiver, Ian McCarty has reeled in 13 receptions for 134 yards.
Lafferty, Cruz and Whitaker have each hauled in two touchdown pass receptions as part of a balanced aerial attack for the Hornets.
Additional receivers for Magoffin County include Garrett Jenkins and Jackson Gilliland.
Curtis Jenkins leads the Hornet defense. Jenkins has recorded 64 tackles, two tackles for losses and one sack.
Lafferty, one of the most versatile players for Magoffin County, has posted 42 tackles, three tackles for losses and two sacks.
Ranking as Magoffin County’s third-leading tackler, Brayden Standifer has registered 41 tackles and one tackle for a loss.
The Hornets have regular season games remaining on the road versus Pike County Central (Oct. 14), Clay County (Oct. 21) and rival Morgan County (Oct. 28). Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Pike County Central for a Class 3A, District 8 game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.
