MOREHEAD — Preparing to compete in the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County conducted a practice at Morehead State University’s Johnson Arena on Tuesday, March 19.

Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, defeated 57th District rival Martin County 67-57 in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Monday, March 11. Tradition-rich Magoffin County captured its first region championship in 100 years.

The Hornets entered the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament 21-13.

Magoffin County was pitted against 14th Region title winner Perry County Central in the opening game of the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 20. The other games slated for the opening round of the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament were Spencer County vs. Great Crossing; Ashland vs. Lyon County; Adair County vs. Marshall County; Harlan County vs. Warren Central; Newport vs. Campbell County; Pulaski County vs. Trinity (Louisville) and Butler County vs. Evangel Christian.
