SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County showed improvement in Class 3A, District 8 during the 2023 high school football season.
The Hornets compiled a 2-2 record in Class 3A, District 8.
Overall, Magoffin County finished 4-7 in the 2023 high school football season.
Magoffin County placed third behind Lawrence County and Belfry in Class 3A, District 8. Belfry claimed the 2023 Class 3A, District 8 title.
The Hornets, under the direction of Coach John DeRossett, notched Class 3A, District 8 wins over Powell County and Estill County. DeRossett claimed his 200th win as the Hornets pulled away to defeat Estill County 38-19 on Friday, Oct. 20.
Magoffin County dropped district games to Belfry and Lawrence County.
The Hornets posted non-district wins over Martin County and Morgan County.
The Class 3A, District 8 alignment will remain the same for the 2024 high school football season.
In preparation for the 2024 high school football season, Magoffin County is scheduled to start its conditioning program in early January.
The Hornets’ 2024 schedule will be finalized and released later in the offseason.
