SALYERSVILLE — Winning convincingly, Magoffin County shut out rival Morgan County 47-0 in a regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 27.

The Hornets won on Senior Night.

After notching the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-6.

As a result of the loss, Morgan County dropped to 6-4.

The Hornets excelled throughout the game. Magoffin County led 34-0 at halftime.

“Improving every day is the goal of many coaches,” Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett commented, following his team’s shutout win. “Our team stayed focused and came to work every day. Football has many components, but it really comes down to toughness, blocking and tackling. We asked our players to stick to the plan and they did. It’s funny, most of our focus has been on the weight room, driving the five-man sled and running a hill. Those are simple tools, but we have stuck with our process. Over the past six games, we went 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the district. We closed all statistics related to success. It is great to look forward to spending time with a team like we have each day. Our players are winners on and off the field. Now, on to the next one.”

Magoffin County delivered offensively, defensively and on special teams.

Thriving on the ground, Ian McCarty rushed seven times for 198 yards and two touchdowns in Magoffin County’s shutout win.

Turning in another solid performance for the Hornets, Aden Barnett rushed five times for 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Chipping in on the ground for Magoffin County, Brock Montgomery added a 66-yard touchdown run.

Providing a lift on special teams in Magoffin County’s victory, Russell Cruz returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

The Hornets’ defensive unit recorded a shutout while delivering three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Bell County in the first round of the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3.
