SALYERSVILLE — Turning in a dominant performance, Magoffin County defeated visiting Jackson City, a team from the nearby 14th Region, 78-25 on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
After notching the win, Magoffin County evened its record to 11-11.
Magoffin County set the tone in the opening quarter. The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, moved ahead early. Magoffin County forced 14th Region member Jackson City to play from behind throughout the boys’ high school basketball game.
Grayson Whitaker scored 16 points to lead Magoffin County to the win. Accompanying Whitaker in double figures for the Hornets, Aden Barnett scored 13 points and Ben Lafferty netted 12 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for Magoffin County, Zane Whitaker and Parker Bowling contributed nine points apiece.
Magoffin County received scoring from 11 different players. The additional scorers for Magoffin County were Case Adkins (six points), Walker Russell (four points), Spencer Howard (three points), Noah Sammons (three points), Reed Meadows (two points) and Brennan Hansen (one point).
The Hornets are scheduled to visit Johnson Central for a 57th District boys’ basketball game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10.
