SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is preparing to tip off the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season on the road in Pike County.
The Hornets are slated to face 15th Region rival Pike County Central in a season opener on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Familiar foes, Magoffin County and Pike County Central split a pair of games during the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.
Following a loss in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2020-21 season 12-12.
After finishing as the 60th District runner-up and making an appearance in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Pike County Central compiled a 16-11 record in the 2020-21 season.
The Hornets are slated to host Pike County Central for a game on January 11, 2022.
In addition to Pike County Central, Magoffin County’s schedule includes games versus Floyd Central, Morgan County, Martin County, Lawrence County, Letcher County Central, West Carter, Corbin, Unicoi (Tenn.), Clay County, Paintsville, Shelby Valley, Johnson Central, Jackson City, East Ridge, Perry County Central and Belfry.
The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, opened preseason practice in mid-October.
