SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Powell County for a Class 3A, District 8 matchup on Friday, Oct. 4.
The Hornets and Pirates are familiar rivals. Magoffin County notched a win over Powell County during the 2023 high school football season. The Hornets doubled up the Pirates 50-25 in a Class 3A, District 8 matchup on Sept. 29, 2023.
Magoffin County will be looking to halt a losing skid at four games. The Hornets are 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8. Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach John DeRossett, posted a shutout win over Lewis County earlier in the season. The Hornets have dropped games to Montgomery County, Leslie County, Russell, Martin County and Belfry.
The Pirates are 3-2 overall. Powell County has registered wins over Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Fairview. The Pirates have suffered losses to Western Hills and West Carter.
Powell County is poised to host Magoffin County for its Class 3A, District 8 opener.
