BUCKLEY CREEK — Magoffin County outlasted Shelby Valley 62-60 in overtime during the Lady Hawk Shootout at Pike County Central on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Following the win, Magoffin County improved to 5-10.
Longtime 15th Region rivals, Magoffin County and Shelby Valley swapped leads throughout the mid-season girls’ high school basketball game.
Magoffin County connected on 12 of 46 field goal attempts during the matchup. The Lady Hornets made two of 12 three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 65.5 percent (36-of-55) from the free throw line.
Abby Barnett paced Magoffin County with a game-high double-double, scoring 24 points and clearing out 11 rebounds.
Providing another double-double, Macy Williams scored 16 points and claimed 10 rebounds for the Lady Hornets,
Narrowly missing double figures for Magoffin County, Emily Sluss netted nine points.
Accounting for the rest of Magoffin County’s scoring, Bella Trusty added five points while Abigail Bradley and Maddie Salyer contributed four points apiece.
Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Justin Williams, notched its third win in six games.
The Lady Hornets aren’t scheduled to meet Shelby Valley again in the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season.
